Before and After
Our clients yearned for a Mediterranean styled home. It was clear that the galley-styled kitchen from the 1980's needed to be transformed. Walls were torn down between the kitchen pass-through (by the sink) and a small dining area to create a more open, spacious kitchen and eating area. The essense of a Mediterranean countryside comes to life in this Tuscany-inspired kitchen.
Some of the details that make this kitchen special are:
- Built-in bench seating, providing additional storage and a warm and inviting eating and conversation space.
- Custom Kitchen Craft maple cabinetry in a ginger finish with mocha glazing beautifully designed by Consolidated Kitchens.
- Thermador professional stainless steel appliances.
- Custom designed and built curved range hood with ornate corbels.
- Hand molded tile for the backsplash, in rich hues of blues and terracotta.
- Hand-forged iron 6-light Elara Pot Rack placed above the island.
- Textured faux walls.
This remodeling project also included replacing the rock roof with "Gerard" stone-coated steel tile in a beautiful Barcelona color. The finishing touch was the addition of a new Pergola off the back of the home, providing a wonderful outdoor living space.
Dining Room Addition
Through a personal referral, the Amedeo's contacted Christo Design Build to help design and create a much-needed dining room addition to their 1960's ranch home. Like many homes in the area, the rooms are small and space is limited. They had no clearly defined dining area.
Our clients gave us a clear plan of what they needed to accomplish with this addition. This fabulous project is the result of proper planning, exceptional design and meticulous construction. By teaming up with CS Kitchen and Bath Studio, Crystal custom cabinetry pieces were designed into the new space for much-needed storage along with giving additional design pizzaz.

Some of the benefits of this addition include:
- Opened up their existing "gourmet kitchen" by removing the outside wall and creating a more interactive space with the dining addition
- Large "Pella Architect Series Classic" bay window and built-in seating help to create a warm and inviting eating space with open views to outdoors
- Built-in planning desk and cookbook shelving
- Created an abundance of much-needed storage space with the beautifully custom-designed pantry and hutch cabinetry
- New 3 1/2" wide "select oak" flooring was installed to add to the warmth of the space
- New solid surface countertops were installed in the existing kitchen
- Created an eating bar area where the outside wall of the kitchen was previously located. This once small kitchen now feels spacious and bright with open views throughout the new addition to the outdoors.
Lower Level Entertainment Room & Bedroom Finish
Perfectly-designed for entertaining, this new space is loaded with all the "bells and whistles!" The room is visually open, yet separate areas were created so family members and their guests can relax, play pool or a game of cards, prepare and serve food, all while being able to watch a movie or a Husker game! From the custom-built entertainment center that includes a 50" LCD TV screen and fireplace, to the built-in kitchen and bar area, this room has it all!
In designing the kitchen/bar area, our clients wanted all the newest in built-in appliances. Teaming up with CS Kitchen & Bath Studio, Shiloh custom cabinets in ivory maple with a pewter glaze finish were selected. The microwave was hidden behind doors and we took the cabinets to the countertop for maximum storage. Refrigerator and dishwasher drawers were placed on either side of the sink for balance. Custom panels on all appliances help blend for a unified design appeal.
A guest bedroom was also created in the lower level by installing a Bilco "Scapewell" from Precast Products along with a new egress window.

Family Room and Exterior Facelift - Our client wanted to warm up the family room area and update this room to include more storage and space for a new, big-screen TV. To do this, we closed off one of the two windows and added custom cabinetry across the entire wall. The beautiful mantle and granite hearth surround the new corner fireplace. A plant shelf provides space for interior accessories.
Looking at the exterior of this home, notice that the middle roof (above and right of the front door) was raised to give this second-floor bedroom more ceiling height and livable space. The window to the left of the front door was changed to a small bay window and a charming covered porch was added to enhance the updated, enlarged entry. The steps leading to the front door are surrounded by a new tie wall with plenty of room to plant flowers.
Kitchen Remodel - We enlarged the pass-through window to create more openess. A decorative hood was placed above the new gas range with double ovens to the left. The countertop was replaced with granite and more lighting was added. Bright, open and functional.
Exterior Face Lift - Small changes can make a big difference. We replaced the brick posts and updated the porch railings to allow for more light. Notice the decorative rails at the porch ceiling. We widened the porch stairway for a more open, inviting entrance.
Kitchen Remodel - In the before photo, you can see one of the ONLY TWO lights in the kitchen. Poor lighting in combination with the vaulted ceiling made this kitchen dark. The only entrance to the kitchen was on the left (at the end of the breakfast bar) which cut it off from the family room. Both of our clients enjoy cooking and entertaining. They wanted a more functional kitchen to add to their cooking pleasure. And they wanted the kitchen area to open up to the family room for entertaining purposes.
In the after picture, you can see that we removed the breakfast bar to open up the kitchen. Then we dropped the ceiling and extended the kitchen out, toward the family room. A kitchen island pulls the cooking area together and has an eating bar on the left side. Professional grade stainless appliances were selected. The countertops were topped with granite and accented with cherry kitchen cabinets. Lighting is no longer a problem with the addition of recessed lighting and undercabinet (task) lighting. The art shelf highlights the kitchen and creates an interesting focal point!
